Aspect's School Network: Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) has grown to become Australia's largest national educational program for children on the autism spectrum, with 9 independent schools operating from 67 locations in NSW and South Australia catering to approximately 1,200 students. Across our networks of schools, Aspect is proud of its passionate, enthusiastic and dedicated teachers and aides who work together to create person-centered multi-disciplinary teams. 

About the School: Aspect’s Treetop School located in Ashford, South Australia, opened in 2016 and has undergone significant changes over the years to ensure the school communities’ needs are met. The school currently caters for 90 primary and secondary students (Reception to Year 10).

With an ongoing demand for places and a long waitlist for Aspect’s education services in SA, Aspect recently completed a $3.5 million expansion of the existing faciliites. This capital works project has been designed to incorporate the latest learning practices and autism-friendly design. It is expected that further growth will be required in the Adelaide region and will include development of satellite programs to complement our existing main campus at Ashford. 

About the role: As Principal, you will lead a skilled, professional team to achieve positive outcomes for children on the autism spectrum, whilst actively contributing to the professional growth and development of Aspect's education services and strategic school improvement plans.  Working with Aspect’s passionate staff will give you a fabulous opportunity to lead a dynamic and energetic school community where we understand, engage and celebrate the strengths, interests and aspirations of people on the autism spectrum.

We are looking for a transformational leader - someone who has energy, enthusiasm and can think strategically.  You will demonstrate resilience and focus whilst working at an executive level to support members of your team to engage and succeed in programs for continuous improvement. You will work collaboratively with staff to improve teaching and learning opportunities and services and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including families and children enrolled at the school.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide expert educational leadership for your school community
  • Promote Aspect's vision, mission and values and uphold Aspect's family focused and person centred approaches
  • Leading and developing a team of Coordinators, Teachers, School Support Officers and Clerical Staff
  • Working with Aspect's Fundraising team and Parents and Friends group
  • Overseeing the delivery of quality teaching and learning programs and comply with relevant legislation
  • Promoting the school and needs of people on the autism spectrum and liaise with government, other service providers and the wider community

What you need to succeed: To be considered for this position you will have experience at a Principal or education leadership level. In addition to your teaching qualifications and experience, you will preferably hold qualifications and/or experience in special education disability services.

A National Police Check clearance is a requirement and Aspect will arrange this. You may be required to provide an International Police Check clearance. A Working with Children check is also required.
