Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) has grown to become Australia's largest national educational program for children on the autism spectrum, with 9 independent schools operating from 67 locations in NSW and South Australia catering to approximately 1,200 students.
About the role:
Reporting to the Deputy National Director of Education, this role will provide expert Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing advice to schools. The role is responsible for the review, development and establishment of Safeguarding best practice, aiming to provide continuous business improvement regarding the social and emotional wellbeing of our students, and ensure rigorous systems for supporting and reporting on safeguarding practices are in place.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse and report on school-based safeguarding action plans for quality assurance, celebrating best practice and providing recommendations for improvement as required
- Provide coaching and professional development as required to establish and continuously improve school capabilities in analysing key information about safeguarding practices
- Review and provide trend analysis reports from existing risk reporting databases (RiskMan) to highlight areas for development in practice and provide insights to policy implementation in schools
- Provide secretariat support for the Education Restrictive Practices Panel, reporting to the Deputy National Director
- Lead additional safeguarding initiatives and/or actions as identified
- Report on Restrictive Practice Applications (from the committee) and provide analysis
- Implement measures to assess the impact and outcomes delivered by all student social and emotional wellbeing programs
- Report on all student wellbeing programs to inform future direction

Skills, experience, and qualifications:
- Knowledge and/or experience in teaching in the disability sector, particularly with students on the autism spectrum, who may have intellectual disability and/or behaviours of concern (Highly desirable)
- Demonstrated experience, reviewing school-community based safeguarding action plans for quality assurance, recommending best practice governance frameworks and implementing quality, risk and safeguarding controls, including reporting / documentation of incidents
- Experience in consultation, mentoring and coaching staff
- High level presentation and facilitation skills
- Relevant University degree in Governance, Safeguarding or WHS, Auditing or Student Welfare and or Tertiary Teaching qualifications (as determined by NESA).
- Current NSW Drivers Licence
- Travel is required between school sites and Aspect National Office
